AND THERE WILL ALSO BE A NEW RESTAURANT, BUT THAT PART NOT FINALIZED YET.
CONSTRUCTION SHOULD START THIS FALL YET.

A 6TH HOME IS GOING UP IN THE SUBDIVISION AROUND THE NEW GOLF COURSE SOUTH OF MAQUKETA.

THE CITY COUNCIL AWARDED A CONTRACT THIS WEEK TO PAVE THE STREET IN FRONT OF THE NEW TACO JOHNS RESTAURANT, WEST OF THE HIGHWAY 64-61 INTERSECTION. IT SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY OCTOBER 1ST.

GOT AN EMAIL THIS WEEK SAYING THAT RON AND BARB VEIT CELEBRATED THEIR 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON AUGUST 22ND. ALSO AT THE CELEBRATION, SON STEVE, DAUGHTER LISA AND HER HUSBAND DAVID, DAUGHTER RONELLE AND HUSBAND DEAN AND THEIR CHILDREN KYLE AND CARRIE.

KMAQ CELEBRATED BIRTHDAY #46 TODAY. KMAQ-AM WENT ON THE AIR FOR THE FIRST FULL DAY OF BROADCASTING ON AUGUST 26, 1958. I WAS HERE AND IT WAS A FUN DAY. HEARD FROM BOTH THE FIRST OWNER, NATE GOETZ IN FLORIDA AND THE FIRST MANAGER, BOB BROWN,IN WISCONSIN. BOTH A RETIRED FROM A LONG CAREER IN RADIO. TWO OWNERS AND TWO EMPLOYEES ON THE ORIGINAL STAFF ARE NO LONGER LIVING.

THREE HOUSES WERE TORN DOWN THIS MONTH FOR PARKING LOTS. THE ONE TORN DOWN JUST WEST OF THE FORMER CARL RYAN BARBER SHOP WILL BE A PARKING LOT FOR MAQUOKETA STATE BANK. THE ONE
TORN DOWN ON THE CORNER ACROSS THE STREET, WEST OF THE TELEPHONE OFFICE, WILL BE A NEW OFFICE BUILDING WITH PARKING FOR MAQUOKETA STATE BANK, AND THE ONE TORN DOWN ON ARCADE STREET NEXT DOOR TO THE HOSPITAL MAINTENACE BUILDING , WILL BE A HOSPITAL STAFF PARKING LOT.

NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE WITH THE FORMER CLINTON ENGINES OFFICE BUILDING ALL SUMMER LONG.
IT STILL HAS MOST OF ITS WINDOWS OUT. THE LAWN AROUND HAS BEEN CLEANED UP. I'M NOT SURE IF THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY HAS TITLE TO THE PROPERTY YET. THE PLANS ARE TO MAKE IT A MUSEUM.

I GUESS IT HAS BEEN BETTER THAN A WEEK SINCE THERE HAS BEEN A LOCAL DEATH. VERY UNUSUAL.

THE CLOSED, UNPASSABLE COUNTY ROAD OFF HIGHWAY 61, GOING WEST (FROM ACROSS HIGHWAY 61 FROM THE NEW HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER) IS BEING REBULDT AND WILL BE ANOTHER ROAD GOING UP TO THE MAQUOKETA CAVES STATE PARK.

THANKS FOR THE VISIT.
