The water bills will be higher in Maquoketa later this year. The City Council is going to add a storm water sewer rate to eveyone's utility bill, to raise money, about $100,000 a year, to make improvements to the storm sewer system in the city,which i getting old and in need of work citywide. The average homeowner will pay about $3.50 a month. Higher for business and industry.
Mike and Kerri Widel of Lost Nation are parents of a girl, born Tuesday at a Davenport Hospital. Paternal grandparents are Paul and Millie Widel of Maquoketa. and Oscar and Marie Bystol of Maquoketa.

And..the Penrose Family Scholarships were announced today by Kate Carinder, Executive Director of the Maquoketa Area Foundation, which
distributes the funds. $1,000 Scholarships will go five area graduates, including 3 from Maquoketa....Chris Davis, Anessa Miller and Jeremy Crawford.

Dan Brickner, a graduate of MCHS and Police Chief at Perry, Iowa .....this past Tuesday won a Democratic Primary election contest to be the party's candidate for Sheriff in that county. His Republican
opponent is a current deputy sheriff in the county. His mother, Audrey,
and sister Beth, are still Maquoketa residents.
The Optimist fly-in drive-in breakfast is Father's Day at the Maquoketa airport....a week from Sunday.
